A quick review of common terms.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI):
    • The simulation of intelligent behavior in computers.
    • A computer system able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.
  • Machine learning (ML):
    • A subset of AI, ML is the scientific study of algorithms and statistical models that computer systems use to perform a task without explicit instructions.
    • Dynamic and requires no human intervention to make certain changes.
  • Deep learning:
    • A subset of ML, deep learning enables computers to continue to learn and increase capabilities without additional programming.
    • Allows for higher accuracy, particularly with perception tasks that involve unstructured data.
